Beware! Electric car giant recalls over 24,000 vehicles due to software flaw. (1) The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) disclosed on Friday that electric car manufacturer Rivian is issuing a massive recall of 24,214 of its R1S and R1T models. The recall stems from a flaw in its highway assist software that could cause the system to misjudge and guide vehicles, posing a potential safety hazard. (2) NHTSA further noted that the issue affected some 2025 Rivian vehicles in the United States running older versions of the software. Although Rivian urgently released an over-the-air software update to address the vulnerability, the discovery stemmed from an accident involving a 2025 R1S model in which the system incorrectly classified a low-speed vehicle and caused the driver to lose full control of the vehicle.
