US Stocks Mixed, Dow Jones Drops 180 Points - US stocks were mixed in midday trading on Friday, September 13th, Beijing time. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 180 points. The Nasdaq Composite Index hit a new intraday high. Yesterday, the three major US stock indices surged to new records on signs of weak employment and tame inflation, signals that investors believe the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates next week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 180.45 points, or 0.39%, to 45,927.55; the Nasdaq Composite rose 70.66 points, or 0.32%, to 22,113.73; and the S&P 500 fell 2.96 points, or 0.04%, to 6,584.51. On Friday morning, the Nasdaq Composite Index rose to a high of 22,150.41, and the S&P 500 reached a high of 6,594.22, both hitting new intraday highs.
