Qatari Prime Minister Holds Talks with US Vice President, Emphasizing Commitment to Take All Measures to Protect Sovereignty. Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Salman held talks with US Vice President Cyril Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington, D.C., on September 12th. Discussions focused on bilateral relations and the situation in the Middle East. Vance stated that diplomacy can resolve outstanding issues in the Middle East. He praised Qatar's mediation efforts and its effective role in achieving peace in the region, and emphasized that Qatar is a reliable strategic ally of the United States. Mohammed stated that Qatar will take all measures to protect its security and sovereignty in response to Israel's blatant attack on the Qatari capital, Doha. The White House announced the same day that Mohammed will also hold talks with US President Donald Trump. The Israel Defense Forces and the Shin Bet National Security Service issued a statement on the 9th, claiming they carried out "precision strikes" against senior leaders of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in Doha.
