[Tesla is accused of favoring visa employees and firing US citizens to pay lower wages] According to foreign media reports, Tesla (TSLA.O) was accused in a lawsuit on Friday of favoring visa holders rather than US citizens in employment decisions in order to pay lower wages. According to a proposed class action lawsuit filed in federal court in San Francisco, Tesla violated federal civil rights laws by "systematically giving priority to hiring" visa holders and firing US citizens with a disproportionate frequency. The lawsuit stated that Tesla relies on H-1B work visa holders. For example, in 2024, the company hired approximately 1,355 visa holders while laying off more than 6,000 employees in the United States, of which the "vast majority" were considered US citizens. The lawsuit seeks compensation for all US citizens who applied for Tesla positions in the United States but were not hired, or who were fired after working at Tesla.
