[South Korea requests an unlimited currency swap agreement with the United States] It is reported that South Korea has requested an unlimited currency swap agreement with the United States to alleviate the impact of the "commitment to invest $350 billion" in a trade agreement on the Korean won. According to a South Korean government official who declined to be named, the South Korean government raised the need to reach the above-mentioned currency swap agreement during the recent tariff negotiations with the United States. The official said that this move was "a response action taken to ensure the safety of the foreign exchange market at a reasonable level." The South Korean Ministry of Finance stated that it is currently exploring "various measures" to "alleviate the impact (of relevant factors) on the foreign exchange market", but did not further elaborate on the specific content of the discussion. Previously, South Korea had agreed to make the above-mentioned $350 billion investment commitment as part of its trade agreement with the United States to "set the upper limit of export tariffs at 15%."
