Capital Economics: Japan's exports may decline further in August. Capital Economics says Japan's August trade data may indicate that exports have yet to bottom out. Export values fell slightly in July, and Bank of Japan estimates suggest a corresponding decline in export volumes. Senior economist Abhijit Surya wrote that preliminary data for the first 20 days of August suggest a deeper decline in exports last month. Early data from some of Japan's major trading partners in the region suggest that exports to these countries have held up quite well, suggesting that weakening US demand will once again be the primary driver of the decline in export revenue. The trade data will be released on Wednesday.
