[US Revokes Colombia's Counter-Drug Partnership, Colombian President Announces Countermeasures] On September 15th, local time, Colombian President Petro Petro announced that the US government had revoked Colombia's certification as a global counter-drug partner and listed it, along with four other countries, as having "clearly failed to fulfill" their obligations under international drug control agreements over the past year. Colombia was last revoked of this status in 1997. Petro stated that the US's actions ignored the enormous price Colombia has paid in the war on drugs. In retaliation, Petro announced that the Colombian Armed Forces would cease relying on US-supplied weapons and equipment, and that the Minister of Defense would be responsible for independent procurement.
