[Malawi Holds Presidential, Parliamentary, and Local Government Elections] On September 16th, local time, the Southern African nation of Malawi held its three-in-one presidential, parliamentary, and local government elections. Approximately 7.2 million registered voters will cast ballots at 6,339 polling stations nationwide to elect the president, members of parliament, and local councilors. Seventeen candidates are reportedly participating in this presidential election. Polls indicate that incumbent President Lazarus Chakwera and former President Peter Mutharika are leading in support, and both are likely to win.
