UK wage employment fell by 8,000 in August. (2) Compared to August 2018, the number of wage employees in the UK decreased by 127,000 (a decrease of 0.4%), with 90,000 layoffs in the accommodation and food services sector being the primary drag. (3) Regionally, Westminster saw the largest decline (-2.9%), while Mid-Ulster saw the largest increase (+1.3%). (4) Median monthly earnings rose by 6.6% year-on-year to £2,568, with the highest salary growth in the healthcare and social work sectors (11.0%) and the lowest in the professional and technical sectors (3.3%).
