[John Lee: Hong Kong has reserved HK$1 billion to establish the "Hong Kong Artificial Intelligence Research Institute" next year] On September 17, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, John Lee, delivered a new policy address, pointing out that the development of the AI and data science industries will be promoted. He pointed out that the government had earlier announced the launch of a HK$3 billion "Frontier Technology Research Support Program", which will accept applications in the short term to support local subsidized institutions in attracting top international scientific research figures in AI and other fields to Hong Kong to lead basic research in cutting-edge technology. In addition, the government has also reserved HK$1 billion to establish the "Hong Kong Artificial Intelligence Research Institute" in 2026 to promote AI upstream research and development, mid- and downstream results transformation, and the development of application scenarios. Hong Kong Investment Management Co., Ltd. (HKIC), as a patient capital institution wholly owned by the government, has invested in a number of AI companies including AI large language models, cloud computing, and AI drug development, and will continue to invest in the AI industry in the future.
