[South Korean Giant Secretly Purchases 65,000 Tons of Corn! Global Grain Trade Undercurrents] (1) South Korea's largest feed company, Nonghyup Feed (NOFI), secretly purchased approximately 65,000 tons of animal feed corn through a private transaction late last week. The cargo is expected to originate from the United States or South America and was not purchased through an international tender process. (2) Transaction details indicate that approximately 45,000 tons of corn were sold at an outright price, with an estimated cost and freight (C&F) price of $231.75 per ton; the remainder was priced at a premium of 170.50 cents per bushel (C&F) to the Chicago Board of Trade's December corn futures contract. (3) All transactions included an additional port discharge surcharge of $1.50 per ton. The seller is believed to be Posco Trading Co., Ltd., and the cargo is expected to arrive in South Korea around January 5, 2026. 4. For corn sourced from the Pacific Northwest coast of the United States, the shipping period is November 27 to December 16; for corn sourced from South America, the shipping period is advanced to November 2 to 21. 5. This purchase was completed through NH Feed, a subsidiary of NOFI. This transaction method highlights that Asian buyers are adopting more flexible strategies in grain procurement to avoid price fluctuations.
