[US Plastics Industry Data Perspective: The Dual Effect of Trillion-Dollar Output and Employment Support] ⑴ The US plastics industry will generate $1.1 trillion in economic output in 2024, directly employing 670,000 people and indirectly supporting nearly 5 million jobs. The industry will operate 11,600 facilities, pay $48.6 billion in wages, and produce $380 billion worth of plastic products annually. ⑵ The industry has a significant ripple effect on industries such as automotive, construction, healthcare, and packaging. Related industries will employ 4.8 million people in 2024, paying nearly $400 billion in wages. Annual plastic product exports will reach $64 billion, and the resin trade remains in surplus. ⑶ Regional data shows a clear concentration of the industry: Texas (54,000 jobs/840 facilities), Ohio (49,000 jobs/810 facilities), and Michigan (41,000 jobs/600 facilities) are the three major clusters. Salary levels vary significantly across states, with the average annual salary in Louisiana being $108,000 compared to $66,000 in Ohio. ⑷ The industry's annual investment scale reached US$17.5 billion for equipment renewal and capacity expansion. The American Chemistry Council pointed out the role of plastic manufacturing in material innovation in clean energy, medical equipment and other fields, and emphasized that companies are increasing investment in the circular economy.
