[Russian grain exports have started weakly, and officials have held multiple rounds of talks with traders to boost them] People familiar with the matter revealed that as the world's largest wheat exporter, Russia's grain exports have started weakly this sales season. Russian officials have held talks with major domestic grain traders to promote export growth. People familiar with the matter said that at least two rounds of talks have been held with Russian officials (including Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev) in recent months. They pointed out that one of the proposals to boost exports focuses on providing subsidies for "grain railway ports." Traders said that the current grain prices in the Russian domestic market are more attractive, making it more cost-effective to sell domestically than to export overseas; in addition, the export tax imposed by the Russian government in 2021 has also suppressed exports. People familiar with the matter said that in this series of talks launched in July, Patrushev asked traders to make commitments to ensure that the export targets set by the government are achieved. The Russian Ministry of Agriculture said earlier this month that it plans to export about 33 million tons of grain in the second half of this year.
