Experts Say AI Will Evolve into an Independent Operating System. The 2025 Global Leadership Conference on Sustainable Development was held at the Shanghai World Expo Park in Huangpu District from October 16th to 18th. Petar Radanliev, author of "The Rise of AI Agents," instructor for the Master's program in Computer Science at the University of Oxford, and a Fellow at the Alan Turing Institute, attended the conference and delivered a keynote address. "Currently, AI is just a function within operating systems. Over the next decade, it will evolve into an independent operating system—but achieving this leap requires resolving three core challenges: real-time processing, scalability, and security and privacy." In his speech, Oxford University Computer Science instructor Petar Radanliev clearly outlined the path forward for AI and highlighted the critical thresholds for technological advancement.
