[Malaysian short-term government securities yields may remain stable in the near term] Chua Han Teng, an economist at DBS Group Research, said that the yields on Malaysian short-term government securities are likely to remain stable in the near term. He said: "This is because the Malaysian central bank is likely to maintain the overnight policy rate at 2.75% for the rest of 2025 as there are signs that economic growth remains resilient despite the ongoing external challenges posed by US tariffs." The economist pointed out that Malaysia's estimated real GDP growth in the third quarter was stronger than expected, supported by strong performance in all major industries. He added that the central bank's precautionary 25 basis point interest rate cut in July seems to be working.
