Venezuela Suspends Natural Gas Cooperation Agreement with Trinidad and Tobago: Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced on national television on the 27th that his country has decided to suspend its natural gas cooperation agreement with Trinidad and Tobago. Maduro stated that this decision was in response to Trinidad and Tobago's support for the US's so-called "anti-drug" operations in the Caribbean. The decision has been submitted to Venezuela's Supreme Court and National Assembly. Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela face each other across the Gulf of Paria, with their coastlines separated by only about 10 kilometers at their closest point. The two countries signed an energy cooperation agreement in 2015, covering joint development of natural gas fields and infrastructure development, with a validity period of 10 years. The agreement was automatically renewed for another five years in February of this year.
