[Reserve Bank of India Deputy Governor Emphasizes Exchange Rate Policy Stance] ⑴ The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Deputy Governor stated that the exchange rate is not a policy tool for addressing tariff issues. ⑵ RBI Deputy Governor Phuntsok Gupta pointed out at an event in Mumbai that in a market where exchange rate levels are determined by market forces, the exchange rate cannot be used as a policy tool. ⑶ These comments come as the Indian rupee continues to face pressure due to concerns about the impact of high US tariffs on Indian exports. ⑷ The latest exchange rate for the Indian rupee against the US dollar is 88.2250, representing a cumulative depreciation of 3% so far in 2025.
