[BDI Rises for 11 Consecutive Days! Capesize Ships Surge $848, Panamax Ships Fall but Alarming] ⑴ The Baltic Dry Index (BDI) rose 11 points on Thursday to 1961, marking its 11th consecutive day of gains. The main contributor was the Capesize index, which jumped 102 points to 2945, a one-week high. ⑵ Average daily charter rates for Capesize vessels surged by $848 to $24,428, a nearly $2,100 increase over the previous three days. Demand for iron ore and coal by owners of 150,000-tonnage vessels drove up immediate shipping capacity. ⑶ Dalian iron ore futures, however, experienced profit-taking due to news of easing US-China tariffs, with the main contract closing down 2.1%. The upward trend in raw materials has paused, and brokers warn that the Capesize gains may be unsustainable. (4) The Panamax index fell for the fourth consecutive day, dropping 36 points to 1849, its lowest level since October 20. Average daily rents fell $319 to $16,643. Fearnleys stated the market "needs a correction." (5) The Supramax index also declined 6 points to 1336. Large and small vessels showed divergent trends. Analysts are closely monitoring port queue data. If Chinese iron ore inventories increase for two consecutive weeks, the BDI may see a short-term pullback of 200 points.
