[White House: Refugee Admissions Capped at 7,500 for Fiscal Year 2026] A presidential memo published by the White House in the Federal Register, a compilation of official U.S. government documents, shows that President Trump has capped the number of refugees the United States can accept in fiscal year 2026 at 7,500. The memo states that "the majority of the quota will be allocated to South African Boers and other victims of illegal or unfair discrimination in the United States." The memo further states that "the number of refugees admitted under this decision may reach, but shall not exceed, the designated quota, and shall comply with other presidential policies and executive orders, including the implementation of the most stringent vetting procedures of any category of alien, and restrictions on the entry of persons who may threaten U.S. security." The White House notes that the memo was signed after "appropriate consultation with Congress" and will take effect at the start of the new fiscal year.
