[Japanese Egg Prices Approaching Record Highs] Recently, egg prices in Japan have continued to rise, nearing record highs. A reporter observed in a Tokyo supermarket that a box of 10 eggs cost approximately 20 yuan (RMB). According to local media, eggs have become a "high-end ingredient." Many Japanese restaurants have had to raise the prices of their egg products. Japanese media reports that this is due to several factors: rising feed costs, coupled with this summer's extreme heat leading to a decrease in egg production; and the first case of highly pathogenic avian influenza this season breaking out in Hokkaido this month, resulting in the culling of approximately 460,000 chickens, representing about 8% of Hokkaido's egg-laying hen population.
