On November 1 local time, police in Elgayo-Maraquit County, western Kenya, reported that a landslide occurred in the county early that morning after heavy rains, resulting in at least 13 deaths and several missing persons. Nineteen people have been rescued so far, and the Kenyan Red Cross has launched a rescue operation. The Kenyan Minister of the Interior stated that helicopters have been deployed to assist in the rescue efforts.
