[US Approves First Export of Nvidia Chips to UAE] According to the Financial Times, the US has approved the export of the latest Nvidia chips to the United Arab Emirates for the first time. In May, President Trump reached an agreement with the UAE president to build a massive artificial intelligence data center park in Abu Dhabi. The Middle East has become a key battleground in the global competition for artificial intelligence. However, Microsoft's project had previously been hampered by export controls imposed by the US Department of Commerce on high-performance Nvidia chips. Microsoft President Brad Smith stated that in September, the company "became the first company under the Trump administration to be granted permission to export Nvidia AI chips to the UAE." He added, "We won this license by meeting extremely stringent cybersecurity, physical security, and other security standards." Microsoft now plans to increase its investment in the UAE from $7.3 billion over the past three years to $7.9 billion between 2026 and 2029, with $5.5 billion earmarked for capital expenditures on AI and cloud infrastructure.
