[Federal Reserve's Alberto Musaleem Says Policy Rates Are Approaching Neutral Levels] St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank President Alberto Musaleem said the U.S. central bank must continue to exert downward pressure on inflation, warning that interest rates are approaching levels where they can no longer provide that pressure. "We must be very careful and continue to work to curb inflation above target," Musaleem said Thursday at an event organized by the Association of Fixed Income Analysts in New York. He added that current monetary policy is "between slightly tight and neutral. In terms of financial conditions, it's close to neutral." His comments echoed earlier Thursday remarks by Cleveland Federal Reserve Bank President Beth Hammark, who stated that she currently has little reason to support another rate cut when policymakers meet in December.
