Reporters learned from the Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, that an international research team comprised of 31 research institutions from both China and abroad published a research report on global sea surface temperature changes in 2025 in the academic journal *Advances in Atmospheric Science* on January 9th. The report shows that the heat content of the upper 2000 meters of the global ocean in 2025 has broken records for the ninth consecutive year; meanwhile, the global average sea surface temperature ranks third highest on record. The ocean absorbs more than 90% of the heat from the warming of the Earth system caused by human activities; therefore, ocean heat content is considered one of the most stable and reliable indicators for measuring global warming. The heat content of the upper 2000 meters of the global ocean in 2025 has once again set a new historical record, continuing the trend of breaking records year after year for the past nine years.
