[New Zealand fuel prices surged on record in March, with petrol up 18.6% month-on-month and diesel up 42.6%] (1) Statistics New Zealand announced that petrol prices rose 18.6% month-on-month and diesel prices rose 42.6% month-on-month in March, both the largest increases since the agency began publishing monthly fuel price changes in July 2011; while petrol and diesel prices fell month-on-month in January and February this year. (2) In the 12 months to the end of March, petrol prices rose 13.9% year-on-year and diesel prices rose 36.9%. (3) In addition, food prices fell 0.6% month-on-month in March and rose 3.4% year-on-year.
