[US State Department Says Israel and Lebanon Commit to Continue Direct Negotiations] On June 3, local time, the US State Department stated that Israel and Lebanon reaffirmed that there is no hostility between them and committed to continuing direct negotiations. The State Department stated that both sides have accepted US guidance and agreed to expedite the establishment of pilot zones. Within these pilot zones, the Lebanese Armed Forces will exercise exclusive control over the relevant territories, excluding all non-state actors. The ceasefire's effectiveness depends on two preconditions: Hezbollah must completely cease fire, and all Hezbollah personnel must withdraw from the area south of the Litani River. The delegations of both sides discussed the security framework based on the defense ministry talks on May 29.
