Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh pointed out that currently used underlying inflation measures are inadequate, and he is "very interested" in exploring new monitoring tools to provide stronger support for central bank decision-making. Warsh revealed that he currently does not have a biased inflation measure, but is "definitely" interested in obtaining data on the average or median prices of goods sold by major retailers. Furthermore, in response to questions from lawmakers, Warsh also mentioned that two highly watched underlying inflation measures that exclude food and energy prices are not ideal measures of inflation.
