[EU to Establish "Climate Insurance Coalition" to Combat Extreme Weather] European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced on the 16th that the EU will establish a "climate insurance coalition" to address the increasing frequency of extreme weather events and improve insurance coverage for climate disasters. This summer, many parts of Europe experienced drought, wildfires, and multiple heat waves, causing casualties and property damage. Currently, only a quarter of climate-related economic losses in the EU are covered by insurance. The newly introduced insurance plan will attempt to address this issue.
