[Trump Praises Warsh but Blames Fed Board, Criticizes Rate Hike and Demands 1%] (1) Trump praised Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh on Wednesday while blaming the Fed Board for the rate hike. (2) After landing in North Carolina, Trump told reporters, “I rely on Kevin, but he has a very difficult board. His board is made up of a lot of other people.” He also said he had told Warsh to vote with the board because it didn’t matter; and called the board very hostile, very politicized, doing the wrong thing, and a bunch of politicians. (3) The Fed announced its expected decision on Wednesday to raise interest rates to the 3.75% to 4% range, the first rate hike in three years. (4) Trump said, “It’s a shame because the rates are too high. Nevertheless, this country has broken through everything because we’ve done so well. But the rates are too high.” (5) He had earlier vehemently criticized the rate hike, saying that U.S. interest rates should be “at 1% or lower because we have the best credit in the world—far ahead.” He wrote on Truth Social that the United States could earn at least $1.5 trillion a year if it stopped trading with every country with which it had a trade deficit; and that the United States was “supporting” almost every country, “this can’t go on,” demanding that “interest rates in the United States be lowered, and quickly!” (6) The Federal Reserve Board unanimously voted to raise interest rates. Warsh said the decision would “support a more timely return to the Fed’s 2% inflation target.”
