[The Central Bank of Mongolia Keeps Benchmark Interest Rate Unchanged at 12.5%] ⑴ The Central Bank of Mongolia kept its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 12.5% at its September 2026 meeting, after raising it by 50 basis points in August. ⑵ This decision comes as the annual inflation rate slowed to 12.5% in August, while core inflation slightly decreased to 6.8%. ⑶ However, the central bank warned that rising fuel and global food prices, as well as increased government spending and wages, could exacerbate inflationary pressures. ⑷ Inflation is expected to gradually slow from the second quarter of next year, reaching the upper end of the target range by the end of the year. ⑸ However, policymakers warned that budget revisions this year and the approval of next year's draft budget could significantly alter the future inflation outlook. ⑹ Meanwhile, economic growth is projected to reach 7.7% in the first half of 2026, mainly supported by the mining and transportation sectors; external risks remain high due to the Middle East conflict and rising energy prices.
