According to data released by the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, sugar production in Brazil's south-central region in late August declined by 4.8% year-on-year, reaching 3.72 million tons. Meanwhile, total ethanol production increased by 3.5% year-on-year, reaching 2.55 billion liters. Sugarcane crushing volume increased by 3.3% year-on-year, totaling 52 million tons. The data shows that while total sugarcane crushing volume increased year-on-year, sugar production declined, suggesting that sugar companies may have adjusted their sugarcane processing allocation, shifting more sugarcane capacity towards ethanol production. This also reflects the characteristic of Brazilian sugar and alcohol production to flexibly adjust its output structure based on market demand and profitability.
