[S&P Global: Japan's October Manufacturing PMI Falls to Seven-Month Low, But Remains in Expansion] (1) Phil Smith of S&P Global Market Intelligence said that although output growth and new orders have slowed, Japan's manufacturing sector still showed a good pace of expansion at the beginning of the fourth quarter by historical standards. (2) The overall manufacturing PMI fell to a seven-month low of 53.3 in October, but is still significantly higher than the long-term average of 50.6 and above the 50-point threshold separating expansion from contraction. (3) Smith said that commodity producers remain confident, boosted by order backlog growth and demand related to artificial intelligence; cost pressures remain high and cost concerns persist, but manufacturers continue to demonstrate strong pricing power as order backlogs increase.
