The CEO of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) stated that since the Strait of Hormuz was disrupted, global inventories have been depleted by nearly 1 billion barrels, weakening the global supply buffer. Diesel inventories in some markets are at their lowest levels for this time of year in 35 years. Shipping and logistics costs have accounted for more than 30% of the cost per barrel of crude oil since the disruption. This new reality means we need to expand strategic reserves closer to consumer markets and increase the flexibility of refining capacity.
