[Qatar Energy Expected to Become Largest Buyer of US LNG, Controlling 23.7 Million Tons/Year of Supply by 2033] (1) According to the Financial Times, Qatar’s state-owned energy company is expected to become the world’s largest buyer of US liquefied natural gas (LNG) by the beginning of the next decade. (2) As Middle East wars reduce Qatar’s gas exports, the country is seeking new sources of supply. (3) Qatar Energy signed two agreements in late October to increase its US LNG supply available to international customers by 7 million tons per year. (4) Combined with its production share in the Golden Pass LNG project in Texas (in which Qatar Energy holds a 70% stake), Qatar Energy is expected to control 23.7 million tons of US LNG supply per year by 2033. (5) Wood Mackenzie says this will make Qatar Energy the largest buyer of US LNG.
