[France's October Services PMI Revised Down to 46.2, Marking the Worst Contraction Since May] ⑴ In October 2026, the S&P Global France Services PMI fell to 46.2, revised down from the initial reading of 48.4 and also lower than the previous month's 51.2. ⑵ This is the worst contraction since May, mainly due to weak demand, tightening financial conditions, and cautious customer behavior. ⑶ New business declined at its fastest pace in five months, primarily reflecting weakening domestic demand, while export orders rose slightly. ⑷ Employment also declined, extending the current layoff period to six months, with companies citing restructuring, retirements, and the expiration of fixed-term contracts. ⑸ On the price front, cost pressures in the services sector remain high, driven by rising fuel prices, supplier fees, and wages. Service providers are therefore raising prices in an attempt to pass on the cost increases to customers. ⑹ French service providers' outlook for the 12-month period has turned pessimistic for the first time since April 2020.
