[Former UN Expert: Both US Parties Constrained by Military-Industrial Complex and Lobbying Groups, Calls for International Peace Conference] (1) Retired independent UN expert and prolific commentator Alfred de Sayas, commenting on Tuesday's US midterm election results, pointed out that both parties are "constrained by the military-industrial complex and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) lobbying group"; the problem with the US two-party system is that most of the time voters can only choose between "bad" and "worse". (2) He emphasized that both Republican and Democratic candidates advocated war instead of diplomacy, supported Wall Street rather than ordinary people, and favored Israel over Palestine; very few people will focus on the needs of the American people and address key issues such as education, public health, taxes, infrastructure, and job creation. (3) Although the UN has "always been ineffective" in dealing with crises such as Iran, Gaza, and others, it is now "more needed than ever" to prevent these crises from escalating further.
