Pertussis continues to spread in Japan, surpassing 50,000 cases this year. The latest data released by Japan's National Institute for Health Crisis Management on the 29th shows that 3,908 cases of pertussis were reported nationwide in the week of July 14-20, marking the fifth consecutive week of new weekly cases since the current statistical method was adopted, bringing the total number of cases this year to over 50,000. The data shows that in the week ending July 20, the number of new pertussis cases in Japan increased by 226 from the previous week. As of July 20, a total of 52,490 cases have been reported this year.
