[U.S. labor turnover survey shows job market cooled further in June] A survey by the U.S. Department of Labor showed that hiring and job opportunities in the United States decreased last month, indicating that the labor market environment has become more unfavorable for the unemployed. According to the monthly Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey, or Jolts, 5.2 million Americans were newly hired in June, down from 5.5 million in May, and the hiring rate fell to 3.3% from 3.4% a month earlier. At the same time, the number of job vacancies fell to 7.4 million from 7.7 million in May, and the job vacancy rate fell 0.2 percentage points to 4.4%. The survey reflects that the labor market has lost some vitality for another month, but large-scale layoffs have not yet occurred. Many companies have postponed layoffs, but have also suspended recruitment plans, making the job search more difficult. (Dow Jones)
