French Household Consumption Surprisingly Grew in June, Reaching Three Consecutive Months of Growth. (1) French household consumption grew 0.6% month-over-month in June 2025, accelerating from the downwardly revised 0.1% reading and significantly exceeding market expectations for a 0.1% decline, marking three consecutive months of growth. A rebound in manufactured goods consumption (0.5% vs. -0.4% in May) was the primary driver, with durable consumer goods contributing significantly. (2) Energy consumption saw a significant year-over-year increase of 3.5% (from 2.1% in the previous month), primarily driven by rising electricity spending. However, food consumption remained weak (-0.9% vs. -0.3% in May), dragged down by declining agricultural product spending. (3) Year-over-year, household consumption grew 0.9% in June.
