[Shanghai Earthquake Administration: Earthquake Off the East Coast of Kamchatka Will Not Cause Disaster to Shanghai] According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, a magnitude 8.7 earthquake (revised magnitude) struck off the east coast of Kamchatka (52.40 degrees north latitude, 160.20 degrees east longitude) at 7:24 a.m. on July 30, triggering a tsunami. Tsunami waves 3 to 4 meters high were detected along parts of the Kamchatka Peninsula. This earthquake is the largest to strike the region since 1952, with its epicenter approximately 3,800 kilometers from Shanghai. Based on the magnitude, location, and tsunami propagation path of this earthquake, combined with measured tsunami data from the 2011 magnitude 9.0 earthquake east of Japan (the epicenter was approximately 2,000 kilometers from Shanghai, with waves 0.2 to 0.3 meters high along the Shanghai coast), the Shanghai Earthquake Administration has concluded that the tsunami caused by this earthquake will not cause disaster to Shanghai.
