French Polynesia issues tsunami warning, with waves reaching up to 2.6 meters high. Following a strong earthquake off the eastern coast of Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula on the morning of July 30, the French Polynesian High Commission announced that a wave, with waves reaching up to 2.6 meters high, was moving toward the coast of the Marquesas Islands. The High Commission noted that as the northernmost island group in French Polynesia, the Marquesas Islands are at greatest risk. Coastal residents are urged to stay away from the coastline and prepare to seek shelter in higher ground, as directed.
