A container ship caught fire in Egypt's Red Sea, causing no casualties. Egypt's Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources issued a statement on the 30th stating that a container ship operated by Mediterranean Shipping Company caught fire while underway on the evening of the 29th. The fire was subsequently brought under control. No casualties were reported. The statement said the ministry received an alert from the maritime control room in the Red Sea city of Ras Gharib on the evening of the 29th, reporting a fire in the ship's engine room and noting that the ship was sailing near an offshore oil platform at the time of the incident. The statement said the Ministry immediately coordinated with relevant departments and dispatched four specialized tugboats to assist with firefighting and rescue efforts. The fire has been fully contained, with no casualties reported. The ship has been towed to a safe anchorage away from the operating area and key shipping lanes. Maritime tracking data shows that the container ship, flying the Liberian flag, is 294 meters long and operated by Mediterranean Shipping Company, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.
