[Forest fires rage across Portugal, high temperatures increase fire risk] Recently, forest fires have raged across Portugal. As of local time on the 29th, at least 2,700 firefighters were battling the blazes. The fires were particularly severe in central and northern Portugal, with as many as 17 blazes. As some of the fires are located on the border between Portugal and Spain, several Spanish aircraft have recently joined the firefighting and rescue operations. Portuguese Civil Protection officials stated that approximately 20 people, including 14 firefighters, suffered minor injuries due to the forest fires. All injured have been transported to hospitals. Portuguese government authorities have stated that due to the high temperatures, the fires are likely to intensify in the coming days.
