Hezbollah in Lebanon: Rejects External Interference, Refuses to Disarm. On July 30, Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem issued a statement explicitly rejecting external pressure to disarm. Qassem stressed that Hezbollah's military capabilities are part of Lebanon's national defense system, and any demand for disarmament would be an interference in Lebanon's sovereignty. He pointed out that the true intention of the US pressuring Hezbollah to give up its weapons is to weaken Lebanon's resistance and create conditions for Israel to expand its military control in southern Lebanon. Qassem firmly stated that Hezbollah will never succumb to external pressure, let alone hand over any weapons to Israel.
