[Japan's industrial output rebounded in June despite tariff concerns] Japan's industrial output rebounded in June, easing concerns about the impact of increased U.S. tariffs. According to data released by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry on Thursday, industrial output rose 1.7% month-on-month in June after a 0.1% decline in May. In contrast, economists surveyed by data provider Quick had previously forecast a decline of 0.7%. The government data showed that Japanese companies expect output to rise 1.8% in July and 0.8% in August. The data show that Japanese companies remain relatively strong despite facing the burden of tariffs on exports to the United States. In a trade deal announced last week, U.S. President Donald Trump agreed to impose a 15% tariff on Japanese goods, including automobiles, which is lower than the level he had previously threatened. Separate government data released on Thursday showed that retail sales rose 2.0% in June from a year earlier, indicating that consumers' willingness to spend remains firm despite inflation.
