[US-ROK trade agreement: South Korea to invest $350 billion in US] ⑴ US President Trump announced a 15% tariff on South Korean imports, reducing the tariff on automobiles from 25% to 15%. South Korea agreed to invest $350 billion in selected US projects and purchase $100 billion in energy products such as liquefied natural gas. ⑵ The South Korean presidential office stated that of the $350 billion investment, $150 billion will be used for shipbuilding cooperation and $200 billion will be invested in chips, nuclear power, batteries, and biopharmaceuticals. South Korea successfully retained market access restrictions for rice and beef. ⑶ Prior to the agreement, Samsung signed a $16.5 billion chip agreement with Tesla, and LG also reached a $4.3 billion battery supply contract with Tesla.
