The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) predicts that tariff-related price increases may begin to take effect by the end of the third quarter, as businesses may have already cleared out US inventories accumulated before the new tariffs were implemented. This year, manufacturers of everything from autos to pharmaceuticals, cheese, and wine have accelerated deliveries to the US to get ahead of US President Trump's tariffs. Andrew Wilson, Deputy Secretary-General of the ICC, estimated on Thursday that businesses have about four months of inventory, about a month more than average, which has somewhat delayed price increases. "You can expect problems to emerge by the end of the third quarter," he said. Wilson had previously predicted that tariff-related price increases would be reflected in US inflation in the fourth quarter or early next year. US data released on Thursday showed an increase in inflation in June as tariffs began to push up the cost of some goods, supporting analysts' expectations of intensified price pressures in the second half of the year.
