Trump: Agreed to extend temporary agreement with Mexico for 90 days. Mexico agrees to end numerous non-tariff trade barriers. U.S. President Trump: I just had a very successful phone conversation with Mexican President Sheinbaum. Our understanding and mutual trust are deepening. The complexity of reaching an agreement with Mexico is slightly different from that of other countries, primarily because the border issue presents both challenges and opportunities. We agreed to extend the previous short-term agreement for 90 days. The terms of the agreement are exactly the same: Mexico will continue to pay the 25% tariff on fentanyl, the 25% tariff on autos, and the 50% tariff on steel, aluminum, and copper. In addition, Mexico agreed to immediately eliminate numerous non-tariff barriers it previously established. We will continue to negotiate a trade agreement with Mexico over the next 90 days, with the goal of reaching a formal agreement within that timeframe, or longer. We will continue to cooperate on border issues, including drugs, drug trafficking, and illegal immigration into the United States.
