Myanmar's National Defense and Security Council (NDSC) has declared a state of emergency in several townships. On July 31, the NDSC issued an order declaring a state of emergency in 63 townships across three regions and six states, in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Constitution, in order to quell armed violence and effectively maintain peace, security, and the rule of law in the relevant areas. The council subsequently issued another order stating that, in accordance with relevant constitutional provisions, martial law would be implemented in the aforementioned areas for 90 days starting that day. In February 2021, Myanmar's then-acting President, Myint Swe, declared a one-year state of emergency and transferred state power to the Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Forces. The Defense Forces General Headquarters subsequently established the State Administration Council, with Min Aung Hlaing as its chairman. Myanmar has since extended the national state of emergency several times. Myanmar Radio and Television reported on the afternoon of July 31 that the NDSC held a meeting in Naypyidaw that day and announced the dissolution of the State Administration Council. (CCTV News)
