UK GDP saw zero growth in July, with a slight expansion in the services sector offsetting a decline in industry. (1) UK GDP saw zero growth in July (previous reading: +0.4%), in line with market expectations. (2) The services sector saw a slight increase of 0.1%, supported by transportation and warehousing (+1.4%) and health and social work (+0.4%), but dragged down by a 0.7% decline in the information and communications sector. (3) Construction grew by 0.2%, driven primarily by private home repairs (+2.4%) and new home construction (+1.2%). (4) Industrial production fell by 0.9%, with a 1.3% decline in manufacturing; electronic equipment (-7.0%) and pharmaceutical products (-4.5%) were the main drags, partially offset by a 3.3% increase in electrical equipment. (5) GDP grew by 0.2% in the three months ending in July, with growth in the services sector (+0.4%) and construction (+0.6%) offset by a 1.3% decline in industrial production. ⑹ In July, GDP grew by 1.4% year-on-year, the same as in June and slightly lower than the market expectation of 1.5%.
